Knitted work by Melanie Porter

a few days ago i watched news on our national tv, TVRI, about hand-knitted chair by Melanie Porter.. i was amazed by her work, it was so beautiful.. she did everything herself, from A to Z.. she loved to use unusual material people usually don't use, like theater chair, or something very common from local thrift store, like usual paper lampshade, and turned them into beautiful knitted artworks.. every chair was unique for it was all hand-made and always came out with different pattern.. the diameter of wool and knitting needles she used was unusually big and not available in store, they need to be specially made beforehand.. visit her blog here.. http://melanieporter.co.uk..

here are some of her work..

the theater chair

the knitted lampshade

the signature chair, union jack

my favorite

she even had done knitted flooring, wow!

each work sold for £1000 to £2500.. a bit expensive but it was worth a lot of love and passion in it.. it's a dream job! love it soooo much! ♥

The Prince and the Poor Boy

i once posted a quote from Mark Twain.. now i remember i have this classic book written by him.. it's called the Prince and the Poor Boy by the way, rather than the Prince and the Pauper.

It is Collins English Library version and has been abridged and simplified by Viola Huggins..  it contains sixteen beautiful illustratrions by Jim McHarg.. here is one of the illustrations i love the most..

The picture tells the best about the time when Tom Canty had a dinner for the first time in the palace in place of the Prince, Edward Tudor.. Poor Tom, he ate with his fingers..

since i am forever a children's classic books lover, i have dreamed a dream of having all complete collections of those books.. in case of Mark Twain, it would be the original complete version of the Prince and the Pauper, the Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn to put on my wish list..

i actually have six more books from Collins English Library collections.. here they are..

i think i'm going to write a bit about Macbeth and Oliver Twist next time..

Our living room #2

the floor is now done with its tiles.. we chose wood like tile.. it's cheaper, easier to maintain,  and looks just like wood.. love it!

here's the detail..

it's Legno Nut from Habitat in 20 cm x 60 cm..

since we do not move somewhere else during the reno process, everything needs to be moved from one place to another from time to time.. everything's just not in place..

these two vintage table are the only things belonged to the living room..

they've been with our family since forever.. they were originally dark brown.. we had just spray painted them into ivory.. they're much more prettier now, i think..
